Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is caused by exposure to hazardous asbestos materials. Asbestos has been widely used in thousands of everyday consumer products. When asbestos fibers are broken into small pieces they can be inhaled or swallowed and attack the membranes around the lungs, heart and abdomen. In some cases it can take over 30 years for symptoms of this disease to develop.
